I come up with ideas for costumes, puppets, and props all the time, and often sketch a couple pictures of them. When I fix on a costume I'm definitely going to build, I start off by drawing it... and I mean, a lot! I've probably got 20 or 30 pieces of paper floating around with just drawings of Callisto. It helps me to work out what the costume will look like in 3-D, think of possible problems with the design, and even work out the character behind the costume sometimes.

You won't find actual patterns or real blueprints for my costumes here — or anywhere, for that matter. That isn't the way I work. I like to have the freedom to do whatever pops into my mind — for better or worse, sometimes — without any real limitations. All you'll find here are sketches, just ideas given a more coherent form. I'm not necessarily going to build all of them; it's quite possible that my next project won't be anything on this page at all. But maybe a sketch here will inspire you... if you do, I'd love to hear about it!

Elf Ranger This costume would be mainly leatherwork, more than likely. I've worked with leather before and enjoyed it, but I've never quite attempted something like this. Again, whether or not the costume ever gets made, at least she's pretty cool to look at! The quiver is made from the skin of a cockatrice (either leather or latex), and the skull on her shoulder would be either papier mache or latex.

Wolf Gargoyle A wolf gargoyle prop, one idea for what I'm going to end up building out of one of those stripped-down singing Douglas Fir Christmas trees.

Dragon I was trying to figure out a way to do something with a long neck, but still rig it so the mouth could open and head could turn.

Dragon Puppet A dragon puppet sitting on a fake arm, while the person's real arm is working the dragon's mouth.

Rat The sketch shows how a fairly realistic rat costume could be padded.

Alien Just a design for a random alien costume.

White Werewolf One of the sketches of the white werewolf that I did, showing her in an alternate costume from the one she ended up with.

Velociraptor I was toying around with the idea of revisiting the velociraptor costume. It might be appropriate at some point, to see how much I could improve on the costume.

Snow Leopard A snow leopard. I finally ended up doing a snow leopard costume for Halloween a couple years ago. The face was a foam latex prosthetic from Lyonshel, but I did make the ears, paws and tail, and did the makeup on the prosthetic. You can see the costume on my Random Costumes page.

Phoenix Similar in style to the red dragon and the raven, with brightly colored feathers made of felt and faux fur.
